The film features a comedic story about a friendship between the village-boy Jemmy (Kuba) and his goat in medieval Prague.
Jemmy and his faithful Goat come to Charles IV-era Prague, where they are bringing eggs to build Charles Bridge. Jemmy, who dreams of becoming a wood carver, falls in love with the voluptuous city girl Katy, which the jealous Goat does not like one bit. Katy is a servant to Master Hanus, who is working on the Old Town clock. Jemmy loses his job on the bridge, but Hanus chooses the skilful youth to work with him. After the clock is ceremonially started, however, the treacherous Prague aldermen have Hanus blinded. Becaus Hanus stops the machinery before his death, Jemmy is ordered to start it again.
Their story intertwines with that of the poor student Matěj Tale from Faust House and his contract with the Devil.
